I envy you, I'm still stuck in Florida. I remember those days living in the winter up there. A car cover is a PITA, you'll get tired of that. Many great suggestions by others here, particularly the anti-freeze and replace your windshield washer fluid with some anti-freeze grade or pour a little in there. If you have no choice but to be parked outside, I would invest in a remote starter and let your car warm up ahead of time. I thought that was overkill, but when I saw my friend use it when I visited IL last year, it was well worth it. Good luck!

Also go to a hardware store like Ace and get some de icer in a spray bottle. Its in a bottle like windex but its a yellow liquid, made to de ice windows. Stash that in your car. Sometimes its impossible to scrape the ice off the windows. Today, my car had a very thin coat of ice inside the car windshield and the scraper would not work on it. My only salvage was this spray stuff. I made a note to myself to also put a couple of old towels or rags in my car too.
