My ex-husband moved here to be near my kids. I'm doing fine financially, so I live in a relatively nice rental (waiting for my house to sell in KS).
But he won't be able to afford anything near my price range, and the cheapest the possible would be ideal for him.
Does anyone know the area enough to make recommendations?
Try Fox Cove condos on Rand road across from Menards. Use to be a junky place a few years ago but now it's very very nice. Amazing how a place can change. I have two friends who live there and they love the place. One girl bought and the other is renting.

Check out Clover Ridge - I lived there for about 3 years. It's not dirt cheap, but average priced. The units come with a washer/dryer in the apt, and the management is good. Honestly, I'd watch out for the dirt cheap apts - I've seen gang tags on the buildings/signs, along with car thefts, etc.

I lived in Palatine a couple years, and never did I consider it ritzy at all. Not saying it's a bad area - I'd move there again. I lived in Village Park apts off Quentin near Rt 68. This was back in 2005 but I liked it. They were cheap back then ($700 for 1 bedroom) but I think they're around $850 now.
