We are currently looking for a house in the Schaumberg area. We want a pool and a pool house. Since most homes we are sent don't have pools. I was wondering what the ball park price for building a pool and pool house would be. I know this varies greatly but a low high will do. Aslo, are pool services easy to find there and about how much do they cost. Thanks

We had one installed about 12 years ago by Barrington Pools. We did not want/need a pool house. The finished pool, with hot tub, board and stamped concrete apron was around 60. We live in Barrington Hills, about 20-25 minutes from S'burg.

Default Thanks nanannie

I am from a warm cliamate first Florida, now singapore. I have zero experience with pools in cold areas. Our thought for the pool house was so we could use it all year round. My whole family swims daily. Can I ask why you chose not to have one? Am I misguided on the yearround thing?

By a pool house- you mean an indoor pool? Thats something I have never costed out . Around here, a pool house is usually an out building for equipment, changing room with a shower etc . We open our pool in time for Mothers day, and close it close to Halloween. It is heated but in fall we tend to just heat up the hot tub. There are plenty of indoor pool facilities for the kids to use during winter months for us, but if you are used to your own year round pool, I can understand. I have seen indoor pools in houses in my area, but cant help you with costs. You might try calling "Barrington Pools'' or any of the pool builders and ask . To answer your other question, yes, there are several pool services in the area. Costs all vary.

The energy costs are kind of insane for an indoor pool. Even if you do use some solar energy it is entirely possible that you'll be looking at something that ends up costing $20,000 a year. Most towns are going to give you some hassle about doing a minimal enclosure too -- you will need to consider all the construction details that go with any sort of construction. From foundation to drainage to utilities to all the various setbacks. You need deep pockets to enclose a pool. If you find a place with an existing pool is may not be well suited to a simple enclosure, any plumbing has to be 100% protected from freezing, and you will almost certainly need to at least relocate some of the mechanicals. The bottom line is you may need to budget for a major overhaul of even a recently built in-ground pool. The simplest in-ground pool with associated pumps, heaters, filters and restoration of landscaping is at least $35,000. A structure that can withstand the Chicago winters and is equipped with heating/ventilation that will allow year round use will at least double that amount. Total costs could easily exceed $150,000 with even minimal integration into an existing house. An even bigger downside is that most Realtors will tell you that indoor pools do not appeal to buyers. Costs, life style and maintenance issues tend to be red flags to buyers.

Friends had a pool done last year by Barrington Pools. They don't have a pool house but they have EXTENSIVE terracing, muli-level patios, hot tub and pool slide. This pool is fantastic and it cost them about 125k with all the terrace work, concrete patios, etc... You can do a 20k pool and a 200k pool, just depends on the materials, size and who installs it!
