OK. The house we bought came with a pool table in the basement. We are considering getting rid of it (mostly becasue we never use it and it takes up a lot of space).

Anyone out there have any recommendations on how to get rid of such a thing with MINIMAL effort on our part? I am looking for ideas!

Thanks.

I would post an ad in craigslist to try and sell it or give it away, stating that if they are interested they would be responsible to hire a company to disassemble it and move it

Giving it a way will work more than likely if it's in good shape. If it's granite, and it's not over a $1000 new (IE particle board, etc.), I'd recommend a sledge. Each slab weighs 200 pounds, 3 slabs.

Does not seem like it has much value if the sellers just left it behind
Its amazing the items left behind when we bought our house
old old paint cans, metal cabinets, old doors, glass panels basically anything that was hard to dispose or easy to break they left behind. nothing of solid value and I certainly havent found any old coffee cans with money stashed away!

I think Craig's List is a good way to go. Is it a slate pool table? If it is, then I don't think it would be hard to sell for a few hundred dollars. Like someone else said, put in the posting that whoever buys it is responsible for disassembling it and moving it.

My next door neighbors had a pretty nice slate pool table that they left in their basement when they moved. Pool tables are heavy and aren't something that are easy to take apart/put together if you don't know what you are doing. They left it behind for that reason; moving it would have been pretty expensive. They also thought it would be a selling perk... though I'm not sure if they were correct about that.

Anyway, there are services out there that specialize in moving/assembling pool tables. Here's one I found with a regular google search:

Local Pool Table Guy

If you give links to services like that in your CL ad, I think that would further increase the odds that you'll find a buyer quickly; they can simply hire a service to move the table for them and save money over buying a new table.
