Smaller lots and houses than north of the tracks. No other real difference.

If you mean other than the obvious one of NOT playing anywhere near them, the answer is NO. Lots of desirable towns have train tracks through them. The RRs know that if they ever had any kind of spill the shear number of litigators that live in towns along the tracks would destroy the firms... The freights move with swift but deliberate action...

If the house is lovely and the lot is deep and wooded than it is not that big of deal to have tracks bordering your home. For safety a fence is a must. Screening type fences/walls are popular too.

The tracks are on an embankment that is about 1-2 stories high with steep sides. I suppose a determined child could climb up it but it wouldn't be easy. Its a fairly low usage track currently.
