Lots of factors. "Quality of construction" is a BIG generic term that includes all the decisions that differ between finding the least costly way to make something with code and going above and beyond -- things that you can't see like the choices of the size of the framing lumber, the pipes, the electrical wiring, the insulation, the methods of moisture sealing/ventilations, all have huge impact on costs. Things you design in make big differences too -- how many floors, how much below grade, how many bathrooms, the alignment of the systems inside the house. The things you can see and choose are the final tipper of value: brick vs less costly surfaces, type of roofing, type of windows, choices for lighting and plumbing fixtures, appliances, flooring ALL have major impact on cost.

A highly efficient process with tightly controlled costs might yield a house with all costs optimized for around $75/sq. ft. for a home of about 2,100 sq. ft. At the upper end the cost could be 4x++ . The range is very broad, and it would be wise to aim for the upper part of the midrange.

someone just mentioned the amount of around 120 per sq ft. I don't know how accurate that number is.
