Now, really. How many times is he going to run and lose? Does anyone else smell a trend here? He should consider an alternate line of work.

We've criticized Todd Stroger on this board but this guy has never even managed to get elected.

Todd Stroger more respectable than Oberweis? Please. No matter what your view on Oberweis is he would be a better Cook County Board President than Stroger. Are you kidding me?! Surely you jest.

I feel bad for Oberwies. He has good strong ideals and really has the drive to be a good politician. People dislike him because they perceive him as being a member of the snooty upper class, which he is, and people say he is arrogant. I feel that if a politician is successful in business it helps them know what to do with government money. Mitt Romney has that same exact problem along with being Mormon.

The one GOP politician recently that I admired was Jack Ryan. He is smart, talented and has worked for the community. He should have stood up to the IL GOP and refused to quit. [We all know the caliber of his replacement!] Or he should run again. But he just lacks the nerve. Too bad.

But Oberweis is beating a dead horse.

I have met mr. oberweis numerous times. he lives in sugar grove, too. he has run in our park district 5k run, been present at community events etc. I think that his problem is that he has a temper when confronted. I was not present at the debates with chris lauzen, who I have also met numerous times, but read about the hostile confrontation. Mr. Oberweis is opinionated and has spoken his mind, and hasn't learned to "couch" his statements. I do think that the negative campaign ads helped either.

Yeah - I think he should give it up. I also think that in some of his original campaigns, he beat the "illegal immigration is the big problem" issue to death. Yeah, it is a problem, but it is not THE ONLY problem.

He has the potential to turn people off with his negative ads - and this is the way he seems to run any campaign he is in. And yes, I agree with above poster, a businessman would know more about budgets and finances than most.

Also, In general, I think the republican party has cracks in the armor, nothing to do with individual candidates necessarily.

I agree (though both parties have cracks) and having those ads with him being on 'Bushs side' sure didnt win him votes.

I think he should give it up. I like the guy, but admit defeat and move on.

We're in the colonial ice cream camp ourselves... Oberweis did just open up a storefront on north avenue though. They do have a darn good strawberry shake.
