I know I've seen a lot of postings with this same question but like the others, our situation is a little different. So I'm counting on all you Chicago Suburbans to help me. Of course, I'm extremely stressed and don't want to make the wrong decision.

My husband will be relocating his job. We are from suburban New York. And yes, we are nice! His job will be in Glenview. Where do we go? Our housing range is between 350,000-400,000. I think I like Deerfield, Buffalo Grove, Vernon Hills or Arlington Heights. Anywhere else?

My ideal area would be somewhere that has a hometown feel but most importantly have shopping centers, restaurants, and entertainment.

Our priorty is schools. We have a 6 year old and an 8 year old.

It seems like these areas aren't going to give us much for our money. All seem really close and from the 70's.

Help, I need your expertise!

Thanks.

Default from a Soccer Mom w/older kids

If your husband is going to work in Glenview, there are some very nice locations in Glenview and the schools are great. Also try Northfield, adjacent to Glenview and award winning schools.

I would first check out Deerfield and Highland Park although those areas can be a bit expensive. They are both supposed to have very good school districts. Northbrook may also be an option. You might also like some of the areas east along the lake (like Glencoe), but those are very expensive.

If you are willing to be a bit farther from Glenview, Libertyville/Green Oaks may fit the bill. It's a great area, and Libertyville schools are supposed to be good. The downside of living up there is that it will be a longer commute to Glenview. In that case, the train may be an option though, since the Milwaukee District-North line has stops in both Libertyville and Glenview.

Good luck!

Thanks for your response. Right now my husband commutes one hour each way. He would ideally like to cut that in half.

Doesn't look like much in my price range. Any more suggestions?

Thanks again for your responses!

Check out Libertyville again, and neighboring Mundelien.

I would then consider Buffalo Grove. It's not too far a commute to Glenview. I think there may be some properties in your price range. Buffalo Grove doesn't really have much of a small town feel, but it is a nice area, and the portion in Lake County is known for being in one of the best school districts in Illinois.

Try Palatine. Great park district and schools and more affordable.

Mundelien, when I looked them up, didn't have the best schools. Is that correct? I thought I read, though, that parts of it has Stevenson HS, do you know?

We found lots of possiblities there. Do you mean that it's more commerical or doesn't have much of anything?

Thanks
