My family and I are currently living on the Naval Base in North Chicago and we are looking to leave ASAP. I won't even begin to depress anyone with mentioning the school district we are currently in.

My husband does not work in North Chicago, but in the city at the Marine Reserve center. I'm not looking to live in the city, but in an area that's less than an hour and a half drive as that is what we currently face.

Great school district is at the top of our list of must haves. We're expecting our third baby in May and will eventually need a daycare IF I decide to return to work. Also a place close to family friendly establishments along with a few places for just the two of us on date nights. Good parks and a diverse neighborhood is ideal as well. Can someone make a few suggestions?!?!

Will he still need to reach the North Chicago base on any kind of regular basis?

What is your budget?

Less than an hour and a half from the city is basically any where in the Chicago metro area. Take a dart, throw it at map---and that's where you should move.

Seriously, I wouldn't want to live in North Chicago either. Use the search function on these boards as this topic has been discussed over and over. Good Luck.

I'm thinking that one of the many areas of Evanston may be a good pick for your family since it's a easy suburb from which to commute to the city. It is also not difficult to drive back up to Great Lakes from Evanston when necessary. I'm not, however, the best person to ask when it comes to Evanston's various school districts. We'll probably need to get some input from other members here.

I also ran a search on "Marine Corps Reserve Training Center", and saw that it is actually on the far north side near Foster & Kedzie. This certainly opens up more options as well. In addition to Evanston, I would seriously look into other near north & northwest suburbs such as the following:

* Park Ridge
* Glenview

Best of luck!
