In my experience -

Tests kids try to do well on, so will give a more accurate picture of school performance/ranking:
- ACT, PSAT, SAT (used for college/scholarship)
- MAP/NWEA, Cogat (used for class placement)

Tests kids often blow off and schools may under support (e.g. teachers/parents telling kids it's a joke) OR over support (e.g. lots of test prep/student prizes), so will give an inaccurate picture:
- PARRC, ISAT, Prairie Achievement

But not really. Check out PARCC scores for Deerfield and Lake Forest High for example. PARCC data for New Trier not even available. Hard to use PARCC scores in any meaningful way.

And what about Deerfield and Lake Forest? They score below Lisle, Conant, Lockport, etc? Doesn't make sense as a useful source of school performance/quality.

Exactly... Lake Forest and Deerfield jumped right out. And our school is #40 on PARCC, yet #11 on ACT ranking with a 25 composite ACT. Coupled with the fact I (and other parents) know how hard our student body tried on the PARCC, I'm not concerned about the ranking.

I almost laughed when I opened the test result envelopes, especially for my daughter who especially bombed it (on purpose) yet is consistently in top 1% on all other natl tests. She thought that was hilarious.

Oh come on. This is nonsense. Glenbrook South next to last? Lake Forest in the bottom 5? Deerfield and Barrington and Buffalo Grove in the bottom half? This is useless information.

Ok, I just showed this PARCC ranking to 6 high schoolers watching the Cubs game at our house and they think it's hilarious their school scored so badly. They feel they should really take credit for this spectacular failure. I feel like I should be mad at them, but I just can't - Cubs are up! At least they're in good company with some other pretty good suburban high schools that bombed it.
