I'm not sure if it's appropriate to ask this type of question on City Data but I don't know where else I can find out this info. My 84 y/o father called me today and asked if I knew of any good chiropractors in the Joliet area. He could pick one out of the phone book, but these days that's as bad as selecting a real estate agent by the same method. I grew up in Joliet but moved away in '92 (I'm now in SoCal). Can anybody help me out? Thanks so much.

I'm sorry I don't know any. What I would do in your situation is to talk to one you like near you and see if they have any to recommend in his area. Even if they don't have a direct referral they may belong to a trusted network that has members in Joliet. Another thing to try is his health insurance company for a referral. Also, if your employer has an EAP or Health Advocate services they should be able to help you get information about providers in his area (even if it is far away from you). You still have to choose site-unseen, but it is better than throwing a dart at the phonebook. Good luck!

Thanks for responding. I had a talk with my dad again; in retrospect a D.C. may not be the best choice for his condition, at his age. Before proceeding he's going to get checked out by a specialist and find out if there's something more going on than just a sprain.

He mentioned reading about a relatively new clinic called The Doctor's Inn, on Rte. 59 in Plainfield, that's supposed to specialize in spinal decompression for herniated discs. That might be one possibility but first he really needs to have his condition properly diagnosed.
