Hi all,

I’m thinking of buying in Berwyn because it’s so close to the city and because of the solid housing stock.

How is the area right near the Lavergne train station? Is it similar (i.e, nice) as the Harlem Ave train station or a lot different?

I had heard in North Berwyn you wanted to stay west of Oak Park Ave. Is that boundary the same in South Berwyn, too?

Thanks!

I used to live the Harlem Ave stop (actually on the Riverside part of Harlem). I liked it and there were never any problems I can recall in the area of either stop. That was 3 years ago, and we still go to Vesecky's (Check spelling) on the weekends when we can.

I lived by the LaVergne station near Ridgeland and Ogden. Not only is that area safe, so are most neighborhoods south of 31st in Cicero.

The LaVergne stop is further east, off Ridgeland Ave. MacNeal is by the Berwyn stop. In any case it’s a fine area. We’ve been in Berwyn for 5 years (near Proksa Park) and I’ve nothing to complain about. No crime, good neighbors, great vintage house and property taxes that cost us less than rent on a two bedroom apartment in Oak Park, etc.

There’s no real “divider” in Berwyn but, as Oak Park has its “Ridgeland Line,” Berwyn has its “Cermak Line” which divides the north and south sides. Here, the difference is a little more meaningful because they are served by separate park and school districts.

There’s been a lot of recent posts on the city so type “Berwyn” into the search feature and you’ll come up with plenty about the community. Good luck!
