Ok, So my husband and I were absolutly ready to move to Oswego or Naperville, but it looks like his work is going to be in Rosemont. We are looking now for a nice (a little newer) neighborhoods, around Rosemont since we understand that the commute between Oswego and Rosemont is practicly impossible. We want to rent in the beggining, and we have 2 kids going to 1st grade and Preschool, so we really want good schols, family community, safety (if not safest).
Please please please any recommondations will be high appreciated.

Thank you

A mom in panic

If you can afford Park Ridge, it would be the best choice. It does have a few houses, condos and apartments for rent. There are some deals that exist like :

Park Ridge, Illinois House, 3 br, 2 bath (broken link)

GORGEOUS Large 2 BR End-Unit Condo (broken link)

apartment for rent (broken link)

Also try Norwood Park or the O'Hare area in Chicago.

Hmmm, maybe try Northwest burbs such as Elk Grove, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Palatine.

I respectfully disagree with PARK RIDGE is the 'best choice'. Check out Arlington Hts. Great family town, metra, very good schools, shopping, restaraunts, wonderful medical/hospital and easy commute to Rosemont.

If you are looking for a newer neighborhood, Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates in the JB COnant District is the nicest area. Although it can be pricey, there are now several million dollar homes in the area.

I agree. Arlington Heights has many wonderful areas and tons to do. Im not too familiar with Park Ridge, so I cant really comment about it. But I do like what I have seen of Arlington Heights and recommend it as well.

Park Ridge offers all of that with an easier commute to Rosemont, an easier commute to the city, and far prettier housing stock. It would definately be my first choice if I were to move in this vicinity.

I would say be cautious about what parts of Arlington Heights you look at. Yes, the area near the downtown is really nice. However, the south parts and north parts are less nice. Especially the south side which borders on some industrial areas. Interestly enough, there is a very large Japanese population on the south side. The north side tends to be houses built in the 70s & 80s that need some renovations and the apartments along Lake Cook. I would love to live in the downtown area of Arlington Heights, but I cant afford the $500k for a small bungelow that is in good shape. You might get lucky for something in the $400ks or high $300ks, but it probably work. My buddy had a two bedroom near downtown and it is valued at around $350k.
