Hey everyone,

I tried to do a search on this but got nothing. So, I'll post this in the city it's focused on...

Got some questions regarding the ambulance/hospital field in Chicago. I know out here in Las Vegas we have MedicWest and AMR for our ambulance companies that respond to emergencies. That said, what are the names of the ambulance providers for the Chi-burbs are and Chicago areas? My boyfriend who is also looking to move to Chicago was asking me about the ambulance field out there and I haven't been there in a few years so I couldnt' remember.

He also was wondering if anyone actively working in these fields recognize EMT-Intermediate or is it EMT-Basic and Paramedic only? He wants to know what he needs to get into the ambulance field out there meaning what certification cards, etc is required besides valid IL drivers license.

Is there any actively working in these fields that could help? Do you know of anyone in these fields? Any suggestions as to where he can do more research on this; websites, etc.?

Thanks in advance!!

Alot of the ambulences I see are A-TEC. Of course there are several others, but I hope this is at least somewhat of a start for you...

Thanks, Steve-O.

Funny, a side track comment here, but since I forward the threads of pictures of Chciago and the burbs to my boyfriend, he actually mentioned your name since you do alot of the pics. Ironic, you were the first to nibble on my thread...http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/sport041.gif (broken link)

I will have him check it out. In the mean time, any others?

Well, I hope those links helped somewhat. Maybe someone in the EMT field can come along and get you the exact info youre looking for.

Well, first of all, the City of Chicago and vast majority of suburbs provide their own ambulance service to the public. That gives you literally hundreds of employment opportunities right there. As for private ambulances, go to yellowpages.com and search for ambulances in various suburbs. If you search for a few towns south, west, etc., you'll end up with a list covering the whole metro area. I did a search for the south suburbs, and found that some of the results are no good, but you'll know which ones are valid when you call.

I work for Chicago and we have to be State of Illinois certified before employment is even considered. Eligibility lists also come to mind here for most municipalities.

For private companies, look into Superior Ambulance in Elmhurst, IL and Advance Ambulance on the NW side of the city.

Default Thanks for the Info!!!

By the time I get to Chicago I will be nationally registered, so I know my cert will be in order. The thing I am wondering is in the state of Illinois, do they have EMT-I? I know in Cali they don't. They just have EMT-B and Paramedic. Hopefully all this schooling wasn't for nothing, (well I guess it is helpful to have the extra knowledge, just a bummer if I have to practice as an EMT-B). So, thats what I was wondering. Oh and hey Steve-O, nice pictures! You fuel my motivation everytime I look at those pictures. Keep up the good work. If you see an ambulance, snap a photo, but what I really love is all those gorgeoud shots of the snow and all the beautiful homes.
