If you are a native of the Chicagoland area, you were brought up thinking that NW Indiana is not the most desirable place to live in.
Well, this might be true for its northern parts, anything south of the old industrial cities of Hammond and Gary, are the most affordable areas to live in the greater metro area.
Suburbs such as Munster, Highland, Dyer, St. John, Schererville, Crown Point, Portage, Chesterton and Valparaiso are great places to live with lower home prices and lower taxes. Those that have known this have already moved there.
They have gotten over the stigma of a ghetto that Gary unfairly places on the whole area.
So, for those that are looking to move to the area or just want to get away from the big city, NW Indiana should be on your list of areas to check out.

Just be aware that you will have to pay IN and IL state income taxes if you live in one state and work in another.

Default My Initial Reaction To....

... The original post of "Best Buys In Chicago"... is that 'there aren't any !

But for a question to the original 'OP' what do you think about Cedar Lake, Indiana which is next door to St. John's?
