Due to divorce and layoffs, I need to sell my fabulous home in Brookfield and downsize to a condo or townhome. My daughter will be going to COD and I prefer to move to DuPage County. Since I will need to limit myself to using the equity in my home to pay for the new place, I am looking in the $150,000 range. I need 2 bedrooms and preferably 2 baths. I'd love a 2 car garage, but my daughter will just have to deal if it's only a 1 car.

I've been looking at West Chicago, although, I'm open to just about anything. I want to rule out Aurora, because the 3 places my realtor has taken me to look at in Aurora have been in downright scary neighborhoods.

I don't want to go to any more scary neighborhoods.

I have a 12 year old dog and she will be my last. I wonder if any of the "no pets" places will make an exception for me.

Can anyone guide me to areas in my price range?

Try looking in Wheaton. Much better than Aurora or West Chicago. There are several "modest" condo developments around that allow dogs. Its an easy drive to COD. Its a very safe and quiet area.

sounds like your planning on buying which means hte pet issue wont really be a problem. its landlords and condo/apt facilities that have no dogs typicall, as long as you own the place i dont know of many if any places in the area that says no dogs if you own your own place. also generally places dont make exceptions. people who need to rent and have pets are probably better off looking at places that specifically allow pets or finding smaller independent landlords.
