Can anyone recommend any mortgage lenders, brokers, etc in or near the western burbs (DuPage). I'm a first time home buyer and this is the part I'm most intimidated and confused by. Thanks!

I will send you a couple of suggestions via PM but honestly this should not be particularly intimating / confusing. Mortgages rules are pretty well standardized, if you have documentable income and good credit rating the rates / terms you get will be very uniform. The better mortgage brokers are just more organized / responsive. The guys I recommend actually like explaining all the documenting requirements and go out of their way to explain things to first time buyers. The bad guys will rush you to agree to things you don't understand and probably stick you with a grand or so of junk fees...

I used Keith Caunter, and he was fantastic. I was in my early 20's at the time and first time home buyer. He made the process super easy, gave me tips on how to improve my credit and just overall other good info, also got me a fantastic rate and got me into a few programs that gave me tax incentives and money back that most other mortgage guys weren't offering as they weren't things they made money on but created more work for them however keith hooked me up wiht all this stuff. He also did a lot of the legwork communicating with my realtor for me so I wasn't running back and forth relaying messages between them

When I dealt with him he was at Bank of America. I just google him and it looks like he's with a company called Compass mortgage though.

I sent several of my friends to him and can't speak highly enough of him

I think chett is right in terms of rates and stuff but in terms of having someone who doesn't talk down to you like an idiot, who's patient with you, who actually returns calls and is responsive, you will find many levels of service when it comes to this stuff. My guy would say call him anytime even like 2 am and I actually did on an occasion or two and he was still up working lol
