HI, I am looking at accepting a summer internship in North Chicago,IL. I would be working at the Lovell Federal Health Care Center. I would need housing for 13 weeks. I am a grad school and do not have a lot of money. How realistic would it be for me to find a cheap, but safe sublease near this hospital?

Please be honest. I will use this information to determine if I should accept this position.

It looks like the area around the health center is one of the safest in North Chicago. However, I don't know that there are many available apartments there. What is your budget?

You're better off posting in the Chicago Suburbs forum; this hospital is a solid 25 miles outside the city limits.

Yep North Chicago is far out of the city. If you're on a budget, I'd look to stay in the suburbs for sure.

I suspect there are some resources affiliated with the VA that might be tapped but the extreme west edge of Wuakegan is not bad for a commute to Noeth Chicago and might be cheap. There is also the possibility of leveraging student housing optiions form the Chicago Medical School which is nearby as well as Lake Forest College...

It would be helpful to know if you will have a car at your disposal. Getting around the immediate area without one will be a serious challenge.
