We recently moved to Oak Park from Ohio and are still trying to figure everything out. We have one car which my husband drives to work at Navistar in Lisle every weekday. This works fine most days as we are in an extremely walkable area, but it would be nice if my husband would be able to get to work some other way on some days so that I could have the car. We are a couple of blocks from the Metra, but I'm wondering if there is a way for him to get from the Metra station in Lisle to Navistar. He needs to be there around 7 most days.

Thanks for your help!

I believe he needs Pace route #829

Pace Bus - Route 829 - Lisle-Naperville Office Corridor

Several of my one car family friends use I Go. I don't know the exact details but a neighbor pays a monthly subscription and has a car whenever she needs it. I think it's something like $30/month subscription plus $7/hour with unlimited hours. She has crunched the numbers and says there is no way they could even lease a car for that low amount, considering insurance costs. She uses it for doctor appointments, grocery shopping twice a week and Costco runs. I know there are a ton of pickup sites around Oak Park, maybe check if one is close to you?

Another friend was a one car family for years, but with kids' activities taking her all over OP and RF, she decided to lease a basic Jeep Wrangler. She loves it. It's apparently less than $250 a month with insurance and so easy to park. She has two carseats in the second row.

Default Wrong line...

To utilize the Pace #829 the OP's husband would need to get to the Lisle train station Wich is served NU the BNSF. Oak Park's Metra station is served NU the UP-W line. Trying to either take a bus all the way through Oak Park to Berwyn's BNSF station of somehow getting to Union Statiin would add so much time as to make this commute unmanageable.

Fact is living in a walkable area when work is elsewhere is not the best situation...

The train that goes through Oak Park, doesn't go to Lisle. Closest it gets to Lisle is Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, which aren't really close.

The train to Lisle is way down in Berwyn, near 31st street. Not too close to Oak Park.

Spend some time on the RTAChicago website. I think your best option is to drive hubby to the train station in Berwyn (31st and Oak Park Ave). Take the train out to Lisle and then catch a Pace bus.

But to be honest I don't think there is any transit option that will get him there by 7:00AM.

While the Metra options do allow for workers to get to the Loop earlier that even 6AM the reverse commute is not designed to allow for folks who start that much before 9AM

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I will definitely spend a little more time on the RTAChicago website (I had looked before but it was a little overwhelming to this small-town girl!) and check out the I Go cars. We actually have another car in Ohio still but are doing a little experiment right now to see how feasible one car is for us.

There are two I-go cars parked next to the Oak Park Metra station, and two more parked next to the Oak Park Ave green line station.
