Hello all,

I am searching for a house to buy (budget - anywhere between 500,000 to 700,000) at a nice area centrally located between these 2 towns. I'm thinking about Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, or Lombard.

Which would be the most desirable location?

Our wants would be - Good school district, newer construction, access to Metra

Thanks in advance!

Of the three towns listed Glen Ellyn is the priciest, Lombard the least.

I would certainly include Downers Grove itself when looking in the given price range.

Personally I would look in Wheaton or Glen Ellyn and strike Lombard. Either one is nice but you should visit them and see for yourself.

I agree... can't go wrong with Wheaton or Glen Ellyn. I would consider properties in both towns. Of course Wheaton will put you slightly closer to Bloomingdale and Glen Ellyn to Downers Drove if that makes a difference. I've been to Lombard's downtown area several times and like it there a lot too, but schools are a notch lower than the other two towns so it probably doesn't match your requirements as well.

Wheaton and Glen Ellyn are pretty much identical. Personally I prefer downtown Wheaton to Downtown Glen Ellyn. I grew up in both for what it's worth but I'm probably slightly bias towards Wheaton.

Can't really go wrong with either.

I don't know how much new construction is around there though. There are some tear-downs once in a while but generally the housing is older but well-preserved.

There is a lot more new housing stock south of Roosevelt in some of the "newer" subdivisions.

Thanks so much for the feedback. It sounds like Wheaton would be nice.

Any info on the school district quality in Bloomingdale itself?

Does anyone have links to analyze the school districts in Chicago? Such as a website that would have separate rankings for elementary, middle and high school?

Thanks!!
