You're wasting your breath.

You have to understand that some realtors, especially older ones, see their job as not only to help people buy and sell homes, but to create demand for buying and selling as well. There is still a set of realtors around who would be oh so willing to put "for sale" signs onto the lawns in Oak Park. They would then send flyers to the other owners, telling them "they better get out now, like your neighbors are doing." They denigrate the school system, and point to other more expensive areas and say "See, that's where you need to move to, and I can help you..."

Some realtors see Oak Park as an area ripe for turnover, and will do whatever they can to assist with that process. Then they would turn their sights onto River Forest...

The techniques of the block-busters have not changed, and we can see this behavior in posters on this very thread.

Utter nonsense. There is no way that any one would benefit from such behavior when there are federal laws that would result in some pretty serious offeneses.

Really the paranoia of some folks is truly out of control.

What act in my posting would violate federal law, if performed by a realtor?
- Putting up lawn signs? Nope.
- Touting more-expensive neighborhoods as "better"? Nope.
- Trying to scare people into selling? Maybe, but only if race is expressed. Trying to scare them about the schools or property taxes is not against federal law.

So who exactly is spouting nonsense?

I have to smile....

I remember when my parents were told very similar stories that Chet is now telling when they were considering moving to Oak Park.....

At least it's good to see some things never change. Including the "long term trends". But I guess 40 years isn't that long.

My Dad still lives in Oak Park, and I recently moved back there too.

Come to think of it, a friend of mine had her heart set on buying an old house in OP to upgrade it back in the '70's. She was almost hysterical over the stories the realtor told. What was she to do? I said if she could afford the house, the taxes, and didn't mind living next to a family that didn't look like her, she'd be just fine, and I suggested she find an OP realtor and ignore the rumor mill. She died in the house she loved 25 years later.

It hasn't dried and blown away yet. Communities area like living things. They are cyclical, constantly changing, growing and declining.
