Need input on where to live. I love the Lincoln Park, Old Town, Lakeview areas, but don't want to spend a lot of time driving to work so I am open to moving closer to where I work in Lake Zurich. Can anyone suggest areas that are (1) relatively safe (low crime rates), (2) racially diverse, (3) walkable to stores, cute shops, etc., (3) populated by single professionals.

I would suggest posting in the Chicago Suburbs thread. This one is primarily for areas outside the Chicago metro area. Your best bet - and it will still be probably at least a 30 minute commute - would be Arlington Hts. They have a thriving downtown it seems, lots of restaurants, bars, a movie theater, etc.

Barrington is more $ and not as lively(as AH), Des Plaines is farther and not as lively, Palatine is not as lively, Schaumburg has no downtown, Buffalo Grove has no downtown, MtProspect is really quiet downtown, Park Ridge is farther, Vernon Hills has no downtown........................
