I recently got a job in Northbrook and my husband is in school in Downers Grove. We aren't from around the area (I just moved here 2 weeks ago) and wanted recommendations about safe suburb areas to look to rent an apartment/condo. Anything close to 294 would be better since we both use that to get to work/school. Please help!

Hard to find a place right in the middle between those two towns, but Elmhurst comes to mind as a nice town where there is easy access to both 294 (to get to Northbrook) and 88 (to get to Downers Grove).

I think Elmhurst is an excellent place to start looking, though honestly any of the towns along 294 could work. Park Ridge, DesPlaines, Glenview, Deerfield, and Northbrook would all put you closer to work. Elhmurst. Hinsdale, Westmont, and Downers Grove itself all put you closer to school.

Any kids in the family? If so, the primary care-taker (usually Mom) should be within 30 minutes to home to make life easier.

I agree, Elmhurst is great. If you look more north, consider Park Ridge. It also is convenient to 294 but closer to Northbrook.
