I may be getting a job in Vernon Hills and relocating very soon, but I know nothing about the area. Do you know if this is a nice area? I was also wondering if you could help me and recommned an area to live in that is maybe halfway between the city and Vernon Hills. I do not want to commute more than 30-45 minutes for work so if that means I need to live closer to Vernon Hills that's fine. I just want to make sure I look in the right areas. How much should I be expecting to pay to rent a nice one bedroom apartment in that area? Any suggestions on an apartment complex?

Thank you so very much for your help!

Vernon Hills and its surrounding suburbs are actually very desirable places to live. In the immediate area you have Vernon Hills itself, Buffalo Grove & Lincolnshire to the south and southeast, Mundelein to the west and northwest, Libertyville to the north, and Lake Forest to the east. Generally speaking Mundelein will be the cheapest priced area out of the towns I listed, probably followed by Vernon Hills. Buffalo Grove might be comparable in some neighborhoods, but it might also be pricey in other areas due to the top rated Stevenson high school district. Lincolnshire & Lake Forest are super expensive. Long Grove is also in the Stevenson district (like Buffalo Grove & Lincolnshire), and has huge sprawling estates generally....and is also pretty expensive. If you want to move further south, I'd maybe consider Deerfield, and maybe the northern Cook County suburbs of Northbrook, Glenview, etc. These towns are also pretty pricey, and I'd say worth considering if being closer to Chicago & Metra train stations are an important factor for you. Since you're going to be working in Vernon Hills, I'm guessing it's not all that important to you. Vernon Hills itself is a great town, with a lot of retail located along Town Line Road (Route 60). I'd definitely check out Mundelein as well.
