Hi All,

I got a job offer in downtown chicago (300 s riverside plaza,60606). So we are planning to move to Chicago area. I think office is in west side of chicago downtown and very close to union station. We have a small toddler 18 month old going to day care. I am looking for subbrub area which would be safe, rent not more than 1200-1400 for 2BR and daily commute to my office should be 30-40 mins. Please advise what are best apartments/suburbs to live with these conditions. My friend told me railway plaza in napervile but it looks to me that daily commute is going to be 1 hour from there. Pls advise on what all options i have.

thanks for your help.

I agree that a town along BNSF would be best commute. I would lean toward Downers Grove in that price range where know you could get a decent apartment close to Fairview or Main St station that would have nice options for day care nearby and a commute that would be quicker than Naperville.

You really lucked out with that work location. Anywhere along the BNSF, Milwaukee North or West, or Southwest metra lines would work. You might even try living aong the Heritage Corridor, though the only three roundtrips makes it a handicap. North Central service is a little more robust, but mostly serves more distant suburbs.

First of all, congrats on your job offer! Ok, I am going to throw my 2 cents in, for what it's worth!
Finding a nice 2BD apartment not to far from the city for that price is a little tricky, especially in one of the train towns closer into the city. Have you considered renting a condo downtown? You may be able to find something reasonable. I had a friend who lived in the Buena Park area with her husband and baby and absolutely loved it. Chicago can be fun and safe.
I am just not a suburb fan. I live in Elmhurst, which is a nice town with shops and restaurants, but rentals at that price are few and far between here. And forget about buying a home in Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Oak Park, etc. unless you can afford $350,000 or more and have money for high taxes and house updating.
Downers Grove is closer in, but def. has some spooky areas.
I tried to find something in Naperville for no more than $1400 and was disappointed. Some of the places were really run down and scary, and Naperville is considered on of the nicest, safest towns around here.
Really investigate the area and building you are looking at!
Good luck

ROTFL! Have you EVER left your house! You're scared of Downers Grove and Naperville!
