Hello all

My husband is working in Northbrook and we are looking for apartments/townhomes for rent in that area within driving dist preferably not more than 10-12 miles.

We have kids aged abt 6 and 4. So we are looking for a good elementary school, parks with good park district programs for kids, library and am not sure abt this but is there an indoor park or something for the winter months. There's a great one in Edina, MN, close to where we have stayed, so thought would ask.

Asian Indian community would be a big plus since thats where we intend to go back in a few years and would like to keep the kids in touch with the language and culture.

Also we have shortlisted a few areas like Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, etc. Now is there a way to find out the elementary school associated with the aptt complex except by calling the leasing office.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Half of BillyTheKid69's comments are false and/or offensive so I'd take it with a grain of salt. The truth is, Indians are quite prevalent in a lot of the near north & northwest (near & further northwest) suburbs these days. Buffalo Grove certainly has a lot, as does Arlington Heights, Wheeling, Mount Prospect & Des Plaines. Glenview would also be worth looking at as they have a quite large Indian population that appear to have "made it" if you will. Even Northbrook itself is a great option if the budget allows. Indians have been in the Chicagoland area for decades now, so it's not like you'd look out of place just about anywhere in the metro especially in the north, northwest & western suburbs (and downtown and north sides of the city).

How can Skokie/Niles automatically be their best bet? Already your commute gets a bit hairier coming from Skokie because you have to fight more Edens traffic, and these days there's a ton of reverse commuters that start their journey down in Lincoln Park on up to towns all the way near Lake Forest. And the reverse commute on the Edens usually gets heavily jammed up as a result of this. Their quality of life would be greatly improved with a shorter commute. Trust me I know what I'm talking about. I used to live in Skokie many years ago (and I now live in Libertyville), and in between I had an apt. in Rogers Park.

I speak the truth about areas when people ask. I dont tone it down for some PC wimp like yourself. Mallard Lake apartments in Wheeling is one place that is about 95% Indian if you are looking to rent. But Skokie/Niles is their best bet, trust me.

And just for the record, I'm not some "PC wimp". I've had comments censored on City-Data before. I've also received "infractions" on C-D before as well. From the general tone of your comments, I'd be surprised if you didn't eventually receive some violations and run the risk of getting banned. Go ahead and say what you want, but not everyone's going to be happy about the offensive nature of some of your comments.

Thank u for the info reppin_the_847.

Does anyone have any specific info abt Clayton Court Partments in Des Plaines as also general info abt the city - dist from downtown (shopping, restaurants, etc), park district, library, etc

Also how is Palatine as an area vis a vis the same things as above. How abt the Asian Indian concentration in Palatine?

I would avoid Des Plaines - the schools are not very good there. Palatine is better than Des Plaines, but also not that great. Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove are good.

Your best bet is Glenview - the schools are great, it's very close to Northbrook, Park District is excellent and Glenview is fairly diverse - you won't feel out of place being Indian.
