I'm 37, divorced, and looking to move. I'd like to move to the city, but the additional crazy traffic is scaring me off. Oak Park is closer to my work and seems like it might be a good fit. Is it a good place for singles? Any input would be appreciated...thanks for your help!

In my experience, even places like Harwood Heights and Norridge are better than Oak Park for singles. But that is just me. People that have no experience with these areas will say Oak Park Oak Park Oak Park.

May I ask where your job is located?

Oak Park for singles was discussed at length in this thread...

Best suburb for a 20-something year old?

Better than most suburbs, not as good as the city. One big advantage over most suburbs is its close proximity to the city for those who are unable to live in Chicago itself.

Thanks for the input. I work in Aurora....I know, I know...please don't start on me about the commute...I realize from other threads that I am insane to consider the commute...but living in the Naperville/Aurora area just isn't cutting it for me. I'm very progressive and single. That does not = Naperville/Aurora. I need to be around more like minded people. I'd love to live in the city, but THAT commute would DEFINITELY kill me. Sigh... Thanks all.

I'd only tolerate that commute by Metra. Driving every day would be too horrible to consider. I suppose there's not any chance your job is accessible by transit?

Unfortunately, no. I know of another teacher in my district who does the Oak Park - Aurora commute...and...strangely...doesn't mind it at all.

Well, that's probably an hour in the morning and easily 1.5 hours coming back in the afternoon. The morning drive isn't too bad and usually flows okay. The problem is the return which is stop and go from Hillside all the way to Oak Park on the Ike. Taking Roosevelt isn't much better. That's too much frustration for me to deal with. I suppose if you have a high tolerance for that...or if living out in Aurora/Napervile is worse, then go for it.
