We are moving from Virginia to Chicago suburbs.....no need for commuting, we can pick a place but have four children pre-teen and teen so need to be concerned about schools. We will rent, cannot afford more than $1500. Please send recommendations about best places to live with these parameters.

The Chicagoland area is huge. You have a lot of options in terms of housing, but with good schools are factor, you need to look carefully. $1500 for a 3 bedroom? $1500 for a 4 bedroom? I would say look to Skokie, Morton Grove, Wheeling, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect in the N/NW burbs. West burbs maybe Franklin Park, Berwyn, Forest Park. Oak Lawn for SW burbs.

Default Without more info...

The tradeoffs one is willing to make are important. Some of the suggestions above are flat out WRONG if the OP wants to consider towns that have safe / high performing schools!

Budget of $1500 is not large for family with four kids. May be restricted to older places / those that are a bit fringe.

What does it mean "no need for commuting"? Could you live in NW Indiana? Southern Wisconsin? Those might be better choices...

Default Chicago Suburbs

I have lived in and around Chicago for the better part of 47 years. I have lived in the southwest suburbs...Bridgeview, Burbank, Alsip and now currently living in the Northwest suburb of Rolling Meadows....The Southwest suburbs are much cheaper to live in than the North suburbs, also, if you look Southwest towards Shorewood, the properties are much cheaper. My advice would be to log onto Zip Realty and see whats available. Good luck
