I am planning to move to Prospect heights near the metra station. Can anyone please let me know of how safe it is to walk to the metra (10-15 mins walk) and safety in general. Thanks a lot

Pretty safe, but a good idea to wear a fluorescent vest while going down Wolf or Camp McDonald Rd.

Prospect Heights is a safe, lovely suburb with a rather semi-rural flavor. (all modest single family homes on half-acre lots built from the 50s to 70s)

THE MAJOR exception to this are the ghettor apartment complexes alon Piper Ln, by the Chi excutive airport. But thats cutoff from the rest of Prospect Hts, so if your not close to that, don't worry about it.

Stay away from the apartments near Chicago Executive airport (palwaukee airport) which is roughly Palatine, Milwaukee, Willow and Wolf. Some mediocre areas some sort of sketchy. The complex on Palatine and Wheeling is nice, and the one a little west on soth side of Palatine Rd-Sand Pebble is OK. Both of those are actually in Wheeling right across the street from Prospect Heights boundaries. Quick drive or bike ride, a fairly long walk to Metra station. Both are walkable or bikable though because of the Prospect Height bicycle trail.
