I briefly looked at the Dallas- Fort Worth Metroplex. Dallas is very spread out, with tons of huge, spread out suburbs. A lot of young professionals don't live in downtown Dallas, but in the surrounding suburbs. Watch the movie Office Space, it provides a good glimpse into that type of lifestyle. Dallas and the burbs there are filled with mega industrial complexes surrounded by apartment buildings and tons of shopping centers with chain restaurants. Lots of young professionals, but no central meeting point like in downtown Chicago or the north side. Dallas really was built in the 1980s and 1990s when that type of urban design was in style. People wanted space because they could afford it and they wanted convenience to shopping plazas with their cars. Amazing how much changes in such a little time. To be fair, the NW and W burbs kind of remind me of parts of Dallas, though our burbs are more densely built.
