Silverado Badges (vehicle, auto, truck, buy)

Good Evening from Texas,

I have owned my 2001 Siverado Ext Cab since it was new. It's Chevrolet's Sunset Orange Metallic with Pewter Fenders (Bushwacker's, but not the really wide ones) and Pewter Quarter Panel.

I have been considering for some time to remove the badges on the tailgate and the ones behind the front wheel wells. I have always liked that clean look.

I wanted to get opinions on what you all think abouthaving no badges. If I do choose to remove them what does it involve?

Most badges are mounted with double stick tape, some have holes under them for other purposes.
Problem with a 2001 is the paint has changed/faded color over the last 8 years. Removing them now may show a different color.

Agreed with both assertions above.

I've found some heat(for the amateur, I'd suggest nothing more potent than a hair dryer)will soften/loosen the adhesive and enable you to pull it off. Resist the temptation to use anything stronger than alcohol (denatured, or even rubbing type) to clean up any residual adhesive stuck to the paint.

If you like the visual lines of the truck then removing the "wall paper" would only make it look better. I cleaned of the "wall paper" off my 1996 K1500 and now it pops visually when I look at it. I LIKE IT!!!!

All that said, please be aware that the paint under the wall paper will be a different shade due to sun fade and weather so there will be "ghost" left by the wall paper. Removing decals,badges and emblems on a vehicle must be done when new to avoid the ghost effect.

Some of these may be held on by nuts from the back, I know older car's fender emblems generally are. Just check before you start prying.

As for adhesive cleanup, I really like 3M's adhesive remover. You can get it at any good auto paint & body supply.

I agree with using a hair dryer to soften the adhesive, provided this is what you have.

Eastwood sells a nice set of plastic prying tools, this could be your excuse to buy a set...

DEBADGE!!! get a plastic scraper and a little bug and tar remover... goo gone or other, easy task

Well I removed all four last night. They came off rather easy but not the double sided tape. I honestly can't see a paint color change. The pickup has had paint protection put on it twice and I park it in a parking garage all day when at work. Please don't get me wrong it does get its share of hot Texas sun. There is still a film of residue is several areas.

I called a local Bodyshop that my Son used a month or two ago. The Service Advisor he had said that I need to bring it by and they will use a polishing wheel to remove the residue. It sounded like they do it often. I was pleased that he said there would be no charge since it take a few minutes.

I really like thesmooth look and so does my 19 year old Son. I called him today to tell him what I had done. I didn't want him to think I was going through a midlife crisis and now wanted to be hip. He said healready knew since I left the badges along side the driveway.
