What was your favorite era of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo's?
I personally liked the 1973-77 Monte Carlo's the best, sadly they seem to be rarer than the 1970-72 Monte Carlo's yet the 1973-77 Monte Carlo's were more popular back in the day.
The Nov., 1969 issue of Mechanix Illustrated tested a '70 454 Monte Carlo. Even with super-high (numerically low) gearing it gave good acceleration:
'70 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Engine/rated horsepower----- 454/360
Torque---------------------- 500
Compression ratio------------ 10.25:1
Curb weight----------------- 3,563 lbs
Rear axle ratio--------------- 2.56:1
Wheelbase/length------------ 116"/205.8"
0-30 mph-------------------- 3.0 secs
0-50 mph-------------------- 5.3
0-60 mph-------------------- 7.1
0-100 mph------------------- 18.9
Top speed------------------- 130+ mph
70-72 were my favorite. I had a 73 with a 350 2v. Good car, but severely underpowered.
I have to agree with you that the 1973-77 Monte Carlo's with the 350 2v's were severly underpowered vehicles like most vehicles of the era but I did love the looks of those Monte Carlo's
1973-1976 - with 454s. Even though the 77 was still big, it lost the big block.
