I can't wait to see what their new flagship will be like in a few years.
Likewise. I'll never be able to afford it, which is better. I like both the CTS (current and upcoming, not so much the first generation) and the ATS. XTS just isn't my type of vehicle, but if I were looking at Avalons maybe. Now just wait and see if my wagon fetish is to be sated.
The new CTS looks too similar to the ATS and doesn't look as sporty as the 2nd gen CTS. This is to say nothing of how the car actually performs. I'm a huge fan of the 70's origami school of angular styling (Giugiaro, Bertone/Gandini) so I should be the perfect audience for Cadillac's Art & Science theme but it's generally left me cold. The vertical headlights, tail lights and vertical creases in the trunk all make the car appear taller and narrower (OK for an SUV like the SRX), which is the opposite of what looks sporty to me. Besides the awesome but rare XLR, the last Cadillac that I think is truly beautiful is the original Seville STS and to a lesser extent the Eldorado Touring Coupe (ETC). The second gen STS was nice but I don't like the softened edges as much. Best looking recent Caddy is the CTS Coupe. Will there be a Coupe version of the 3rd gen CTS?
Slightly off-topic but I think the new Lincoln MKZ has the best looking tail of any sedan on the market.
So, the ATS looks alright, although it looks much larger on paper and in person than other entry level lux sedans and it doesn't really attract me. And the CTS has a similar effect. On the other hand, none of the German competitors have attractive styling either and at least the Cadillacs look like no other marque, so kudos.
I haven't driven any of these cars but the automotive press seems to agree that there is essentially parity between Cadillac and its competitors in terms of powertrain, interior quality and performance although not reliability. According to reviews of the ATS, its handling surpasses the continually softening Germans (because of electric racks?).
So, if I was in the market for these types of vehicles, I would certainly consider (favor?) Cadillac, even if the styling doesn't appeal.
Last I heard, the coupe is still on, with a more traditional profile. The wagon is gone, but there may be an ATS wagon and coupe.
I've read within the last couple of months that the coupe's future is uncertain. My fingers are crossed in hope that it survives into this new generation.
It confuses me that the CTS wagon didn't sell more than it did. To me it was certainly more attractive than the offerings from BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, and it even had more power. Yet I've probably seen a handful of them on the road while seeing hordes of Bimmers and Mercedes wagons.

This may be regional but I don't see very many BMW/MBZ wagons here in the Bay Area. They are around but not in large numbers and the ones that I do see tend to be a generation or two old. They certainly aren't selling very many here. Audi wagons are somewhat common but these are also generally cars like the A3 which sit below the 3 series/C class/CTS. Crossovers seem to have taken a bite out of both SUV and wagon sales because they can generally do both tasks well (storage capacity and high riding position).
if someone would have paid 50k cash for one of these cars when the op began,,,,,,,,,,,,,that 50k car is now only worth 40k...........you know this is true

In that time frame I don't think it would be any different than a 5 series or E class car. I would generally be very suspicious of any car that is being sold within a few weeks or months of initial purchase.
