Interestingly I never knew Burt Reynolds owned one of these...though I'm sure he found it a lot better than the Trans AM's he drove during the Smokey And The Bandit movies.

Greed got the best of him. I remember when the GN's were for sale. In our area they commanded up to 5 grand over sticker and the GNX was 10K over sticker and they sold all they had. It was the one and only GM car that I even wanted new.

There are plenty of low mileage GNX's out there. I know of a few right in this area.. When the market was way up about 6 years ago that car would have commanded over a 100k. Today its worth about $60k tops. Classic cars follow the housing and economy market.

That article is a bit misleading. 270 HP in a 3500# car will not produce 4.7 to 60 times. Most of what I remember and found online says low to mid 5's to 60. Certainly the car could be tweaked to perform better, but that's true for any performance car.

I like the body style, and back in the day they were very desirable. But there's certainly a lot better performance value in today's vehicles.

But you have to remember that back then, that was amazing horsepower. Very few cars had over 200HP. Now adays that much HP doesn't even turn anyones head.

I do remember that. I drove numerous GNXs, GNs, and T-types. The fast ones, not the earlier ones. Some modified, some stock. They were good cars for competition sound systems, which is what I did back in the late 80's.

My point is that (I assume) people buy these now for collectibility rather than performance driving, especially at the prices they can get. And also that for about the same $$$$ that a GNX cost 23 years ago, a 2011 GT Mustang will drive circles around it.

The turbo Buicks were well ahead of their time when new, and IMO are still amazing vehicles today. The 276 hp was an underrating, and for less than $1000 you can transform one of these into a high 11/low 12 sec vehicle while keeping it docile enough for street duty with working a/c, all coming from a V6.

276 hp was what GM rated them at.. We all know it was more
