Dear Friends: I will be passing through Chattanooga next month. In looking for an inexpensive hotel, I am thinking about the La Quinta (100 W. 21st street). Just checking to see if the area is a safe one. Thank in advance for your input. mdutton

Well.... 21st street is near downtown and La Quinta is okay, but the area is kind of... well..... not as gentrified as some other spots. If you have business to do downtown and you're not going to be staying long then I guess there's not problem. Otherwise you might be better off staying somewhere off the Shallowford Road exit on I-75. Good area, roads are less confusing for outsiders and it's very close to a lot of safe retail and restaurants.
