I am wondering what, if any, gay life there is in Chattanooga. I live in NW Georgia, not too far from Chattanooga, and I am looking to make some friends. Are there any places to meet people around here? I really don't care for the bar scene. I am 45 and into writing and music.

YOu could join the yahoo group tvpride (Tennessee Valley Pride) or come bowling with the rainbow league either in Brainerd or Hixson. Good group of active folks that may lead you on to gatherings and such.

Coffee Crafters on Vine Street is a great place to hang out, drinking awesome coffee & have interesting conversations with strangers who sometimes become friends. Super gay friendly & all types of folks hang out. Though it is heavy on students & professors due to it's close proximity to UTC. It's a tiny lovely little place!

Hi, Bates Reed here. I grew up in Chattanooga and have been in Orlando since I graduated in 1986. I'm moving home to Chatt Town and can't wait. June 1. Where are the best areas to live. I know about Northshore, and Brainerd, but I've heard there is a decent population in Hixson of us Gay folk. Where are the areas to live that are affordable, up and coming etc. I'd be grateful for any info. I'm visiting this Sunday before transferring up and am looking for a condo, house, etc. Moderator cut: see comment Thanks.

Most gay people live in East Ridge, in the Brainerd Area (Glendon Place, specifically) and downtown. The Southside has a decent gay population and is walking distance to Chuck's, the city's oldest gay bar. I don't know off too many gay people that live in Hixson, bu there are some. The other two gay bars are Images on Lee Highway and Alan Gold's Discoteque on McCallie. The Big Chill downtown on Market street is gay owned, as is Sing it or Wing it, the karaoke bar and restaurant across the street from the Big Cill. Both restaurants have strong drinks and excellent food. Tennessee Valley Pride has several outing each year and a Pridefest annually. This is nothing like the Orlando gay scene. There is nothing like the Parliament house here, but I hope there is someday soon. We are about 2 hours from the gay campground called Timberfell, which is just outside Knoxville.

Chattanooga is as gay friendly as it can be given the divisive nature of the gay community. No hegemony here as yet but perhaps its coming I hope. For those who really care about the broader community a great city to make a mark.
