I am considering purchasing a home on Missionary Ridge. Is this a good place to live (positiive/negative)?

We live in Shepherd Hills on the side of Missionary Ridge and am really happy with our decision to move there. We have a beautiful home that is convenient to all areas of the city without the price tag of some of the other exclusive areas. That being said Missionary Ridge is pretty long and there are several different parts to it, all with different character. Msg me if you want to discuss further.

Love the ridge, hate the school zones. If you have children, prepare to add private school to your expenses. If not, enjoy! Beautiful area with some fabulous homes. Das' neighborhood is great, check it out while you're up there. One of my ONLY problems is that there are few places for children to ride bikes and play in the streets together. Do well-off kids do that? lol Other than that it's a good choice.

Lived on Missionary Ridge (South Crest) for about 18 months (recently moved).

Pros:
1. Incredible views of Chattanooga - can see the all the firework shows during the 4th from your front lawn
2. Nice neighborhood, lovely homes, excellent neighbors
3. Generally quiet
4. Quick drive to the downtown area; accessible to all areas of Chattanooga
5. Lots of fascinating civil war history on/near your front lawn

Cons:
1. Very windy at times - well, you're on a mountain
2. Awful public schools
3. Unsafe for young kids to ride bikes or even walk - narrow sidewalks, speeding cars, winding roads
4. Close to "sketchy" neighborhoods (as you go lower in elevation; although Shepherd Hills is very good)
5. Long drive to Publix

(Agree with above) If I had kids, and couldn't afford private schools, I would not buy.
