I've been helping a friend who is trying to get her life back together after a divorce. Right now she basically has no possessions other than a vehicle (upside down on the loan by over 50% of the vehicle value, with a 14.9% interest rate), is up to her eyeballs in debt, and recently had her hours drastically cut back at work. She lived with her parents for a while and now with friend, but the recent cutback in hours means that even without rent she can't make all her payments. I tried to help her by negotiating with some of the debtors, but they aren't budging on partial payoffs.

So the next step is to start discussing bankruptcy. She doesn't want to default, but I personally don't see any way around it. At this time she's willing to meet with a bankruptcy attorney to discuss options, but only if it's one of those free initial consultations.

So does anyone have any recommendations for a decent bankruptcy attorney in Chattanooga?
