S.D. Town is very nice to re-tire. Many churches to enjoy. River is nice for boating or fishing popular. Rt 27 divided highway good, hiking trails up on ridge. New stores always being built. County camping at 3 good parks on water. County fair this weekend, Chester FROST.

How long is the commute from Chattanooga to Soddy Daisy? Is the road to Soddy Daisy a four-lane highway or an interstate? Is there a lot of traffic congestion?

Great 4 lane highway to Chattanooga, takes you right downtown. I lived out that way and drove downtown for years. I think from the bottom of Flat Top Mtn it took 24 minutes on a Sunday afternoon but the same drive on a weekday during "rush hour" will take around 30. lol The conjestion is a joke compared to larger cities and the city did attempt to allieve some of it. As more and more people are moving out that way it will get worse but I would still do it.

Now that you mention traffic congestion....that is another reason we want to relocate out of the Dallas area. We have congestion everywhere here. Does I-75 get backed up during the am and pm rush hours? If we could actually drive to work without having it stop and go on the interstate we'd be in heaven.

The name "Soddy Daisy" is such a quaint name! Wonder if there is a story behind the name?

LOL Don't get us started on this one LOL and DONT EVER ask someone from Soddy if they are from Daisy even though it is NOW one town LOL

Here's a little quote from Soddy-Daisy Tennessee (http://www.soddy-daisy.org/soddy-daisy/index.htm - broken link)

"There are various tales about how Soddy and Daisy were names. One maintains Soddy is an anglicization of the Indian “Tsati” meaning sipping place. With Soddy lake, the many creeks and streams, this could be true. A second states that Welch inhabitants corrupted the name of William Sodder’s Trading Post to “Soddy.” The Community of Daisy was named after Daisy Parks, daughter of Thomas Parks, who was the vice-president of the Tabler-Clendys Coal Company. Both Daisy and Soddy were thriving coal mining communities until the 1930's. A hosiery mill, turpentine plant, several pottery and tile kilns were active in Soddy and Daisy until the same period. In April 1969, the communities of Soddy and Daisy, extending for about 9 miles along U.S, 27, were incorporated."
