Is North Chattqanooga a city separate from Chattanooga? If one were looking for historic home to purchase with close prox
imity to shopping and nightlife, would North Chattanooga suit the bill?

i'm pretty sure "North Chattanooga" is in the city of Chattanooga. I've seen that area has a lot of boutique shops, and non-chain type stores. Major mall shopping isn't that far away though.

"North Chattanooga" is the portion of Chattanooga that is north of the Tennessee River. It is connected by several bridges one of which is a pedestrian bridge. I'm not sure about historic homes in the area but there are some older homes there.

Hoppy, North Chattanooga/North Shore would put you VERY close to downtown (just across the river) and some good times. Lots of bars and festivals in close proximity. As far shopping, there are some cute shops, several restaurants, one drug store and a book store. Greenlife Grocer is moving in closer as well. There are some beautiful older homes but you'd better get out your pocketbook as the ones that have been restored can cost a small fortune. For something a tad more reasonable but farther away from the nightlife, check out Missionary Ridge. This area overlooks the other end of "town" and is 10 minutes from downtown.
