The wife and I are planning a trip on Labor Day weekend to the area. We'd like to see some of the area and real estate between Chattanooga & Knoxville for future building plans (on or near water).

1) Any events going on that weekend to see?
2) Place to stay (Maybe a cabin/resort w/ marina boat rentals)?
3) Good places to eat/hang for early 30's (would love to get local bars & BBQ)?
4) Canoe river trips in the area?
5) Are there like beach areas where boats will anchor up have beers & food, etc.?

Thanks for the help.

Thumbs up Boating Heaven

F: You will be in heaven with the North Hamilton co(Chattanooga) river if you like boating. Maybe 2 weekends ago there was Dam Fest or Aqua-palooza some new anchor gathering. Many coves have weekend overnights, like the Soddy creek with marina at Steve's landing restaurant. ,And a few others on the main channel. If you are looking for Real estate, you just have to decide what SIDE of the river to live on. West side is llittle more quiet away from the I-75 hassle.
North up 312 to 60 east side toward Dayton is getting attention and now near the Hiwassee and Ocoee rivers for major kayak and canoe paradise.
You will really be getting towards football season and that whole area is hot with the University. North of HIXON on the West SIDE IS OUR MAJOR COUNTY PARK chester frost LARGE LAUNCHING area for boating and camping.
Local bars & bbq will have write ups in the cycle mags, every weekend some sort of ride / benefit, search "ROADRASHMAG.com ?? ...[/IMG]

Thumbs up Two ends of Cove-SPLIT personality.!

F: SOUTH end of cove has the houses and some of our church friends, other church camps, launch ramp, Swimming, inlet to main channel.
OUR property is on the NORTH end of cove On Very TOP of RIGHT side of hill. Many hiking paths, mtn bike trail, even mx to keep me young. Canoe creek feeds into north end of this hydro cove.
Last night I found out SALE CREEK town will be having free 100 year centinal festival Sept 1st on rt #27. May enter the boat along with classic cars, tractors, music etc. ..........[/IMG]

Default Mercury

Beautiful! A salesman for a Norris Lake development was telling me about high mercury levels in Watts Bar. What's the story on this? Is he just trying to push his property, or is it a valid concern?

Firefly here's a link to TVA's properties with that info, updated in 2005 I think. Norris Lake and Watts Bar rated about the same and have no swimming advisories, however there is an advisory about fish consumption @ Watts Bar.

TVA: Reservoir Ratings

If you can consider moving closer to Chattanooga, the Chickamauga Reservoir has some great ratings. This includes Soddy Daisy, Sale Creek, Harrison Bay etc...
