Looking to compile a list of summer camps that you don't need a six-figure income in order to send your kids to it. Checking around, most week long residential summer camps cost $1000 up to $3000 for the week.

Here are a few that are less than $500 per week that Charlotte parents can send their children to:

4H Camps - 4-H Camp

Higher Ground Summer Camp - Summer Camp North Carolina: Higher Ground Summer Camp - A Christian Summer Camp near Asheville, North Carolina

Camp Chestnut Ridge - Chestnut Ridge Camp and Retreat Center

Camp Tekoa - Summer Camp in the NC Mountains - Camp Tekoa (http://www.camptekoa.org/index.asp - broken link)

Camp Lutherock - Lutheridge + Lutherock Ministries, Inc. : Lutheridge Campus Map

Again these are your more traditional sleepaway camps where kids sleep in cabins, experience the outdoors and have a variety of activities.

Please add to this list to help other parents. Make sure the camp is at least one week long (not a 5 day camp) and it cost less than $500.

Thanks for adding to the list. Hopefully others can keep adding to make it a great resource for parents who desire a high quality summer camp at an affordable price.

I did notice that some of these camps even offer partial scholarships on top of their low rates.
