I believe they are again hiking the water tax after a hike last year because of the drought. I could understand that but should we not ask the powers to be to roll that one back as there is no drought now.

There is a huge issue going on about CMUD that is mostly being ignored by the Observer that concerns complete incompetence on how this operation has been running over the last decade. It turns out that 1000s maybe 10s of 1000s of those electronic water meters have been giving out incorrect readings and nobody in CMUD took much notice until they found the bills were not being paid. in some cases, the electronic meters were not even connected. It was complete bungling by those who installed them and failure to followup after the fact. I should have known something was up when 3/4s of these new meters on our street busted within 12 months and each one led to days of water running into the sewers because CMUD was in no hurry to get someone out to fix it.

Now a lot of people, including myself are being hit with all kinds of irrational charges that don't have any comparison to the water being used. Not surprisingly the head of CMUD has decided to take his retirement and get the hell out of there. What remains is will the local city council do something about it?

My guess is they are going to raise rates to pay to fix this mess.

Here is a good article on it.
