I was just wondering if anyone could tell me about what High School Teachers wear to school. I am heading over to Charlotte in Janurary from Australia and will be in some local schools during my stay, and may even have the opportunity to do some teaching.
In Australia, teacher dress code varies and depends on the school, city, weather, etc. I would not like to show up to a school and be over or under dressed.
Basically, I am looking to find out what the basics are, for example, dress slacks and a nice blouse.
It depends on the person from what I've seen. I've seen many teachers dress pretty sloppy IMO (ie jeans w/sneakers & short sleeve shirts), however some do dress nice.....it really depends..
At Christmas time, you need a Chrismas motif turtleneck, a Christmas motif sweater vest or denim shirt with sparkly Christmas motif appliques, and matching Christmas themed earrings (dangling candy canes, cutesy snowmen, etc.).
For the fall season, ditto to the above, except change all the above Christmas motifs to pumpkins or fall leaves or something.
Business casual although as someone already stated some teachers do dress up more than that. No jeans, except on Fridays if the school has that policy. But typically slacks, khackis, nice shirts and blouses, etc.
Depends on the principal. Some say you are a professional and you should dress like it and some say if you work with 6 year olds you should dress accordingly. Business casual to nicer and you can't go wrong. Some do wear jeans, but that is usually on Fridays and at most schools teachers pay a minimal fee for a "jeans day" that is donated to a charity.
I am back. I brought my pencil, give me something to write on man.
