OR when you hear them starting to come down the street, run out and throw a bunch of long nails in the road and watch the crashes for entertainment with some wine..(that's what I would do)

You just have ATVs? Count yourself lucky. We have go carts, riding lawnmowers, ATVs & dirt bikes.

I hope you're kidding. It's a nuisance... not a threat to your physical well-being.

Sense of humor maybe? Just a little??

Well its a threat to their physical well being and your mental state which could lead to physical well being of others right??

Actually, Id only throw a couple of nails down just to watch the instant slow down and then crash.

Wow, if it's your neighbor, what happened to talking.. Why do the police have to get involved. If they jsut got the ATV's give them a couple days, maybe they were just checking them out. If it continues have a conversation with them (you would need to know who to call the police anyway) and just express your concern about noise and safety. Obviously some people may not be very comfortable with this, so I would start with the HOA first or even an anonymous note in their mailbox.

Probably best to call the cops first. Parents that would disregard neighbors by allowing their children to do something so inconsiderate will likely not be willing to rationalize.

How about a rope across the road to knock the riders off?

I know you're joking but your comment strikes close to home. Just a couple of weeks ago my 19 year-old daughter rode her bike through a thin rope that was stretched across the street and as she went down it snapped and whipped around her neck, causing bad rope burns. Happened on a city street in north Philly. Hum...

Thanks for bringing this to people's attention. I hope your daughter is ok and I am glad she wasn't more seriously hurt. I know people think they are funny until they realize that people actually do stupid stuff like that. There is humor and there is bad taste pretending to be humor, sometimes it's a fine line. I am not all for being 100% PC, but... well anyway.. Again, hope your daughter recovers.

Cubs let us know how it goes.

I am glad that you recognized that I was joking and I am sorry your daughter was hurt. I always make un-PC jokes, whether anyone other than me thinks they are funny or not.

I don't know 100% of the situation but I still think that going to the police is sometimes your better solution. If the OP is anything like me, they have no idea what type of people their neighbors are. Talking to them might just cause more problems than it would solve. Maybe I should get to know my neighbors better but they haven't exactly reached out to me either.
