I have a bed, mattress, sheets, some small furniture to donate, preferably to a women's shelter or domestic violence shelter. Someone mentioned that the shelter reps will come to your home to pick these heavy items up. Does anyone know who to call for this in the S. Charlotte area?

You stated you specifically wanted to donate to a women's shelter or a shelter for domestic violence. You want to contact the Charlotte Shelter for Battered Women at 704-332-2513.

I know you specified women's shelter and hope you find one that will pick-up. However, if you don't, consider AmVet.

I found nobody that would take my mattress, but I did discover that my garbage company hauled it away for free just for being a customer (Hawks). That was awesome.

BTW, they also have a woman's division; cannot think at the moment what the name is but, they can direct your donations there.

Yeah I'm having a hard time finding someone to take the mattresses. The shelters I called actually have no room for large furniture, AM VET will not take mattresses.

I am going to call Salvation army later today.
