I'm 22 years old preparing to graduate from college & I am considering a move to North Carolina, particularly Charlotte. I'm studying English, hoping to get involved in publishing (book or magazine). I'm looking for an area with a decent young adult population as well as lots of activities geared towards people my age. First, which area(s) in Charlotte would one recommend me looking for housing? Also, is Charlotte a good city for someone interested in the publishing field? I would appreciate any kind of advice regarding these topics or about the area in general including relocation tips. Thanks!
I would do a litte more research on the publishing field and see what opportunities you would have in Charlotte compared to another city. One of the gals I worked with had a friend who worked for a magazine in Atlanta and they cut their workforce back a few months ago. As Chicagocubs said, get a job first. Go to the bookstore and look for a book called Writer's Market, they will list all the book, magazine, publishing agents and more and their locations. This would be a great tool to start with. Go to the websites as most offer job postings. Good luck with your search.
