I was thinking that same thing, and we'll never know the third.

Cool cable rates...

Its a great deal FOR ME. It might not be for other people....
CouponJack - I'm not sure where you got those rates, but they are far cheaper than you can get from them today in Mecklenburg county.

Comparing apples to apples is how I figured out the savings...which means comparable internet access speed and comparable channel selection...see the post above from coastalgirl

I figured out today that basic cable and the LOWEST speed of internet access TWC offers would cost about the same as a 300-channel selection on DirecTV (with XM channels!) and the second-highest speed of internet access on AT&T DSL...

I don't like TWC because their rates are crazy, their customer service is horrible, and either my cable TV or internet goes out 2-3 times a month on average. I see that you are in Union County - you must not experience the same there as we do in Mecklenburg County. Honestly it is primarily their steady rate increases over the last 3 years that are most disappointing.

Channel 9 is my favorite for local news, but since I can get them over the air it isn't a real big deal to me personally, other than having to switch inputs on my TV to watch them. Now where is my remote?...

But your question makes me wonder - you seem intent on defending TWC - do you work for them? If so I hope you don't take all this stuff personally - it certainly is not your fault.

TWC has added a few HD channels, but my rates have gone up $5 a month for the last 2 months. I now pay $154.90 for Digital TV plus middle speed internet and HBO. That's hardly a bargain! When I checked what I would have had with Cablevision back in NJ for the same amount of money, I could cry. There TWC, Cablevision and Comcast have to compete with Verizon FIOS so they're offering their triple play for a year for $49 to $69 a month for a year as an incentive for not switching. I'd be willing to bet when the WSOC problem is solved, TWC will blame them for next month's $5 increase!

Verizon where are you? Come save me with faster internet and more HD channels. My only complaint against them and the Dish companies are that you need a box for every TV set. TWC cable in NYC has done the same thing by totally eliminating analog altogether. I wonder when they'll implement that here! No matter who or what service you have, you lose!

I got the rates direct from Time Warner's site. Its what I pay every month.

Click on Basic Cable, Family Choice, and 1.5mb Roadrunner....I pay roughly $58-60 including taxes and fees.....It is not a Union County thing. Its perfect for us...

I like the price I have. The customer service I agree is horrible, but my father who has dish had horror stories from his installation (they screwed it up royally). My cable has only gone out once in last 6 months for approx 5-6 hours.

AGain, it works for me. It may not work for other people and thats ok...

Just to chime in with my 2 cents - I am also in Meck county - and we had TWC hooked up for TV and internet when we moved into our house last Summer. We have had very few internet outages since then (maybe 2-3 occasions, for no more than an hour) and at least one of us is in our home office on any given day from 9-5, so our experience is not just evenings and weekends - trust me, if their outages were interfering with our jobs, we'd be up in arms. Same for the TV service - a few times, very brief period of time. In short, we have had no real problems over the past 7 months since we started using them.

I pay less than than that w/ my DirecTV, and I have all the premium channels and the Sports Pack, and the HD pack (about 120 channels are in HD compared to 30 or so w/ cable), along w/ the XM stations. I have DSL that is just as good of service as cable broadband....Time Warner pulled this stunt in Columbus, OH w/ channel 10 (local CBS affiliate) back in 2003 or 2004, so at that time, I switched to DirecTV and I will never ever go back to cable, Customer service sucks big time in cable compared to DirecTV, and where as maybe a decade or so ago, DirecTV would go out anytime it rained, now, it takes the biggest of monsoons to knock it out (in fact, the only 3 times I've lost my signal have happened when I lost my power due to a bad storm).

I don't watch enough television to care. ABC doesn't have Survivor or the Amazing Race. ;-0
