Can anyone tell me if I should bring my studded snow tires with me when I move to the Charlotte area? They are a "must have" up here in Maine, but do you get enough snow/ice to make them useful down there (are they even legal to use)?
They will probably dry rot before you even get a chance to use them. I'd say leave them.
ALLRIGHT U2Man! That is the answer I was hoping to hear!!! Thanks so much! (does that mean I can leave behind my snow shovels, snow blower & car's snow-brush too?)
Leave the studs up in Maine. They are illegal here in NC. Don't need them. Keep at least one snow shovel and the snow brush but loose the snow blower unless you like to keep stuff and have a big garage. When it snows, it usually only gets an inch or two and by the third day, it is all gone.
We left all of our shovels, snowblowers and sleds in CT! We do not need or miss them at all! I had to use an ice scraper once in 2 years. Not too bad! Best of luck!

If there's snow, NC generally doesn't have the equipment to handle it like up north. I made a deal with an old boss that I'd come in after it melted, usually after lunch or have a rare snow day, and that's when I lived in Asheville that typically gets more snow than Charlotte.
I grew up with lake effect snow in NYS and know how to drive in it, but there are many that don't and it's rare, why would they have a lot of experience with it? I will not risk my life over snow and will find another job if the boss doesn't respect my well-being!
