Does anyone have information on a new high school for the Cornelius area? Particularly, 1) is it under construction yet, 2) when will it open, and 3) what effect its opening may have on the student populations at North Mecklenburg and Hopewell High schools.

Thanks in advance for any information you have, or rumors that you may have heard.

Default Bailey Road High School

The new school is under construction and is scheduled to open August of 2010. Current rumors say no senior class the first year. Also that boundaries are proposed to be similar to the middle school next door. If that is the case, then North Meck HS and Hopewell HS will both lose hundreds of kids. Bailey Middle is a high performing, affluent student body and the high school would be similar. Hopewell and North will both lose large numbers of some of the best achievers. If North keeps the IB program then that will continue to draw her performing students. But, both existing schools will have a much changed student body.

Default Maybe

If you are going to be a senior next year, you would stay at Hopewell. If you are younger than that, it depends on where you live. The CMS website has the adopted boundaries available to download. Where do you live now?
